Hi Sheila,

Just wanted to send you a recent picture and a special thank you.

As we look back over our blessings of the past year, we are especially grateful for Riley.  She has just been wonderful. The boys love and have learned a great deal about caring for someone.  She is always perky and cheerful.  Thing just can't be gloomy when Riley is around.

We feel that getting her is one of the best decisions we made.  She brings an extra measure of love to each day.  And, she makes me get out and walk regularly, which I need.  Please feel free to use her
picture and the note.  You do such a fabulous job that I would be happy to help other families find the "right breeder" and the "right dog."

Anyway, thanks again for sharing her with us.  She is a great dog and a true member of our family.
Does this  expression (on photo above) say "feed me," or what?

Sheila --

We have been meaning to write and give you an update on our wonderful Bailey-Mac for some time now, but it seems like there hasn't been a spare minute since Thanksgiving!

I just wanted to thank you so much for him.  We couldn't be happier, and he is just a joy.  Most people have a hard time believing that he is a Jack Russell, both because he is so well behaved and he hasn't destroyed our house. He is so happy and excited most of the time that when he wags his tail, he is actually wagging his whole backside - very funny to watch.

The kids and I visit your site often, and think Bailey looks very much like his sisters -- We bought the new dog training DVD that you have mentioned, and found it very helpful!  We also got the Dr. Pitcairn Natural Health book - another great reference.

Bailey went through puppy training, and passed with flying colors.  The kids are now working on having him catch a frisbee since he has mastered the tennis ball.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this wonderful addition to our family.  From people who had never owned a dog before and were apprehensive about the prospect, we now can't imagine life without him.  We are all very grateful for finding Connemara Jacks and for you sending us our Bailey!  He is everything you promised and more!

Fondly,  Paula, Felix, Ben, Grace and of course Bailey-Mac!
"Bailey-Mac" is littermate to pup "Riley" and "Boudi" pictured here just above him as well as our own little Erin.  No, his ears are not supposed to stand up - however, on occasion this can occur.  His family loves him just the same.  Our pups are primarily bred for their health and amazing temperaments.
Riley is doing GREAT!!!!  We love him sooooo much!!!! My son is sooo excited and has been so good with him, taking care of him, being responsible for him--he doesn't want to leave him.

Our whole family is so in love with him--he is in VERY GOOD hands in California. We'll send you pictures as he progresses.

Thank you for everything, he is the cutest and most well behaved puppy we have ever had!!  We adore him!!

Thanks again!
Sandi
SHEILA,

I have Boudi (Boudica) 3 years old and Clancy who's 2 years old.  I've been dealing with Sheila for almost 4 years now.

This was the first time in over 40 years of getting pups that I let a breeder select the pup.  I told her I wanted a high drive JRT to compete with agility, but would still be affectionate and a good traveler.  Boudi has flown (in cabin) to Texas, DC, Arizona, and Miami Beach.  She's stayed in some of the finest resorts and is currently in training for agility with the national champion (Gerry Brown).  She resides in a 4-dog household that includes my 13-year-old blind Schipperke, my housemate's 3-year-old Standard Poodle, and Boudi's 1-year-old half brother Clancy.  When I wanted to get Boudi a "pet" I told Sheila I wanted a rough coat male who was not dominant, was very affectionate, with a mellow loving personality.  That's just what I got.  He also is fascinated with birds and "points" at them.  In addition he's a mighty hunter, capable of snatching june bugs out of the air and eating them.  He is so sweet and sociable that he makes the rounds at night, sleeping with everyone in the house, especially guests. I refer to him and Boudi as Frick and Fracas.  They're inseparable (along with the big poodle).

Through all these 2 years of owning a Connemara Jack, Sheila has been there every step of the way for me with advice on food, training, interaction, and just sharing stories.  Both dogs are phenomenally healthy and exactly what I asked for.  Here's a picture of the pack (not very flattering of Boudi, but you can see better pictures of her on Sheila's website.

Hi Sheila

Just a note to update you on Bailey's progress. She is a delight, we are now in puppy training and she is so smart, catching on so quickly we are so happy with her and would like to bring another into our family this summer or fall... we would like another female and of course out of Maddies litter. Bailey has been spayed is fully potty trained and a constant joy...

..."thank-you very much for bringing Shinga to New York also thank Kody for looking after her as well for us. She was exceptionally well behaved on the flight back to Canada with us. The air hostesses were very friendly and allowed Shaughne to take Shinga out of her carrier and play with her.

She is so perfect in every sense from her coloring and looks to her personality, she is exactly what I was looking for.  She has adjusted well into our home and lifestyle."
Shinga's 1st Birthday party!
Once I got a puppy named Seamus Finnley OB-joyful.  He is a Connemara Jack from Sheila.  What a special pup he is at four years old.  More comfort and companionship than I ever thought I needed and more joy than I could hope for.  These are perfect people dogs.

Time passed and lo, urged by my friend Marilee, I acquired the big white fellow, Henry.  He is a simple soul with a darling presence. At this point, I think Finn was a little worried about his own territory but darling Henry was not the take over kind and gently warmed  his own place in our hearts and space.  Finn was entirely happy with the arrangement because he got to still sleep with his nose touching me.  Henry likes the head of the bed, sharing my pillow.  At the same time, Gabbie occupies the foot of the bed and enjoys the boys whom she apparently accepts as her young pup children.  Gabbie is 11 and a cousin in race, a Welsh terrier.

While the boys were as enchanting a pair as ever was in this house , something was missing and , yes, another pup added, Dule-Jane, so beautiful and feisty and quick witted my old age can hardly appreciate.  Dule is small, Lovely coat and color and has that love of life all Connemara Jacks have; she's the perfect fit for the canine corpe of Doonie Rock.  So fortunate am I to have these creatures as my companions.  They are truly  a special clan of Jack Russell thanks to Sheila and her careful breeding program and special pup attention.  Thank you Sheila, for my Connemara dogs that sing to my soul and warm my deepest lonely and disconnected places.  These Irish dogs are my light into the future.    Love,  Di
I’d always wanted a JRT, but didn’t want to deal with anything “crazy and hyper”.   I have six cats and a senior Standard Schnauzer and wanted something that would blend nicely into my household.  I stumbled onto the Connemara website and read and reread the information posted over a period of several months.  I consistently liked what I saw.  Then Mac’s picture popped up and he was available.  I couldn’t stand it.  I submitted an application, Sheila called me and the rest is history as they say.

I admit that at first I was nervous about buying a puppy from a breeder that I found on the internet and wasn't going to be able to meet, because of the horrible puppy mill stories you hear about.  However, Sheila did a wonderful job of putting my fears to rest when I spoke with her at length (and several times) on the phone.   So I took a leap of faith and tiny, fluffy MacGowan arrived in his little crate at the Cleveland airport.  It was a wonderful decision and Mac fit right in with the rest of the animal crew.  There are moments of stress and frustration to be sure, but the warm and tender moments more than make up for the other times.

When my Schnauzer is gone, I’ll definitely get another puppy from Connemara .  Dealing with Sheila is great.  She’s extremely knowledgeable, very professional, honest and funny.  Most of all she loves her dogs.
- S.H.
We got Posy (pronounced Po-zee), from Connemara over three years ago.  She is everything Sheila promised and more.  I called Sheila to inquire about her dogs and she invited me for a visit.  I also found that we shared the same veterinarian.  I called to ask his opinion and he assured me that Sheila’s dogs were wonderful and Sheila was too.  As soon as I met the dogs, I was hooked.  I fell under the spell of Gracie and knew right then that I wanted a pup from her.  I was lucky enough to be put on the waiting list for her next litter.  I waited several months all the while, delighting at all the web site updates about Gracie, her pregnancy and then her litter.  It made the whole experience so wonderful.  I also was fortunate enough to participate in the temperament testing of Gracie’s litter, which was an interesting experience in itself.  Sheila and I agreed that Posy was the puppy for our family, although there were several others that would have been great as well.  Posy has the sweetest nature and astounds everyone she meets with her calmness and friendliness.  Everyone expected our Jack Russell to by hyper and Posy is NOT at all.  Posy loves everyone, especially children.  She and our cat have a wonderful relationship and play all the time.

I also enjoy the forum set up for all owners of Connemara pups.  Not only do we get to trade dog stories, pictures and training ideas, but we have formed good friendships.  I hardly go a day without logging on.

Hi Sheila,

Wanted to share with you a picture of Scout, as you can see she is smiling! She is just a perfect little lady. She is now three years old and would do anything I ask of her. She loves people and thinks that everyone walking past her is supposed to say hello and I am serious when I say that she smiles all the time she is so happy and light hearted. Tom and I are very excited about bringing home another Connemara Jack ( Liam)  soon. I can’t thank you enough for all the love you have brought into our home, right down to creating our Dirt Dog Forum where we all can get together and share our experiences together. I had the opportunity to travel this past July to Long Island N.Y from Columbus Ohio just to go to a dirt dog barbeque.

Hi Sheila:

I've been thinking about you and Connemara so much these past couple of weeks.  I'm so sad to say that we are grieving the sudden loss of our beloved Mellie right after the new year.  And as hard as it has been on us...we knew she was sick, visited twice-a-day her at the hospital and were somewhat able to prepare ourselves for it...our poor little Murphy (Gracie x Seamus) is the one I worry about most.  I know he misses his sister terribly.

He is usually the happiest little soul I've ever come across.  People and pets alike just gravitate to him.  And he couldn't have been a closer brother to Mellie if they had come from the same litter. He truly made such a profound difference in her everyday life and she just blossomed once he came into our lives.  One of my favorite Murphy/Mellie events:  whenever I come in the front door, Murphy is always waiting for me at the top of the steps.  He gives me kisses and greetings and then....disappears.  He somehow seemed to know from the beginning that Mellie couldn't hear the comings and goings, so he took it upon himself to run to her at her favorite daytime bed area down in my office, rouse her from her nap, and then they'd race each other back up to see mom. That's the way he always was with her.

This was my first experience with having two dogs at once.  And now that I know what it's like, especially with the past two years watching Mellie and Murphy together, I can't imagine it any other way.

We would very much like to have another Connemara pup (brother) for Murphy.  I think he's the absolute spitting image of his mama, Gracie.  And he is definitely my big lovable boy.  He's got some incredibly broad/powerful shoulders, chest, neck and head.  But even so, he's just as gentle as can be.

Thanks so much for everything you do.

I have owned many dogs in my life, and exclusively Jack Russell Terriers for almost 30 years.  I found Sheila's site while surfing one day and was curious, loved their look,  so stopped in.  I contacted her and found that she was probably the most knowledgeable breeder I had every talked to.  She knew her dogs, her business. At the same time, she wanted to make sure she knew ME before I could have one of her dogs. She backs them 100%, but the most important thing is her pup and what is best for him/her.  This was what really sold me on her .

I am the proud owner of Maggie from Erin x Seamus and plan to add Casey, from Bailey x Seamus, this month.  Maggie is beyond a doubt the friendliest, smartest, most socially adept pup I have ever had.  She's a laugh a minute, learns quickly and hasn't met anyone  she doesn't like, including kids.

When you get one of Sheila's pups, you join a family....I keep in touch with a lot of the folks that also have her dogs...we share stories, ideas and pictures. - Pat
I have always loved Jack Russells but was hesitant as I had heard and read about their hyperactivity and occassional aggression issues. So it was with great relief and happiness that I discovered Shelia's website a few years ago.
Hi Sheila,
We just wanted to send you a note and a couple of pictures of Merlin.  He’s grown into such a beautiful boy and is so easy to live with that John and I agree we could have ten jacks like him!  Thank you for making such a great match with our Olive, we all know how difficult but sweet she can be. They are a great pair and love each other dearly.
He’s really blossomed into a very well rounded boy with a heart of gold.  Everyone that meets him wants to take him home and most can’t believe he’s a Jack Russell.  And just so you know….we’ll be keeping our eyes open for another little munchkin like him in the future after he’s had a chance to get his junior earthdog title and a few flyball points under his belt.

Talk to you soon, Karena and John
Hi, Sheila.  I'm attaching a few pictures of Sophia.  They range from her first snow to her fashion show.  Sophia has been a little ray of light in our lives.  I lost my parents 47 days apart in November & December and Sophia has been my baby and my smile.  She is the best natured little girl and everybody's best friend.  I knew from the beginning that I needed and wanted  an intelligent and spirited dog, which did not translate to high-strung and tempermental.  My research brought me to Connemara.  The website provided me with the information I was looking for and then some.  My conversations with you were like talking with an old friend and I was
assured that I was looking in the right place for the new addition to our family.  I haven't regretted my decision for a minute.  I could go on and on, and only my self-control stops me from looking for a new little brother or sister for Sophia right now!  Thank you for the hard work and dedication that is evident in your involvement with your "families" and your JRTs.  I was so lucky to find the cream of the crop with you and Sophia.

Linda D.
Never have I found such an informative and interesting site about Jacks and everything you need to know about these dear little dogs. After talking to Sheila several times, I was on the reservation list. Half the fun of getting one of Sheila's pups is the anticipation and waiting that goes into it. When the little pups finally arrive there are fantastic pictures and constent update about them. What really amazes me is the way Shelia works so hard to find the right dog for you and your family. She really knows about temperment and when she tells you what she has, and what she recommends for your family, she really knows what she is talking about. Sligo came to live with us in Jan. of 2006. What a dear little guy and as mellow and sweet as Shelia had told me he was. My sister came to meet Sligo and immediately fell in love with him and a few days later, was on her own reservation list!! Sligo and Paddy, my sister's dog bonded from the start and every Friday is their play day.
I realized after a year that I had to have another little Jack, so Hannah came to live with us in July of 2007. These two dogs are so intellegent, so sweet and gentle and although they have their own crazy and happy play moments, they always calm down when the occassion requires it. We have two parrots and two cats and the dogs are great with them. On the weekends we go to our favorite coffee house and Sligo and Hannah absolutely love it. Warning...be prepared to have all kinds of
people walk up to you and ask if they can pet your dog. You have to get used to the attention because
people go nuts over Connemara pups. They never bark and are very gentle with even the smallest of children. I am so grateful for Shelia and her knowlege of her Jacks and her guarantee which is quite simply, THE BEST! Life with Sligo and Hannah is so rich and fullfilling and and I have already told my husband not to be shocked if I add another Connemarajack to our family!
Thank you Sheila, for being you, and for the dearest dogs possible.

Diane in California

Dear Sheila,

Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know (for the millionth time)
how very GRATEFUL we are to have found you as our breeder!  Sully (out
of Poppy x Seamus 2006), a.k.a. George Sullivan Bailey, is simply the
most wonderful dog we've ever had the joy of knowing.  He is extremely
smart, always entertaining, and the sweetest little snugglebug anyone
could ever hope to meet.  No one EVER believes he's a Jack Russell
because "Jack Russells are all so hyper, aren't they?"  Sully charms
everyone he meets and especially adores children - he gleefully revels in
every tail-pull, snout-grab, and eye-poke they dole out!  He's a friend to
all and has never met a person whose heart he cannot melt.  I cannot
imagine a more perfect addition to our family, and he's been
extraordinary from the very moment I laid eyes on him.  Thank you, thank you, a
million times over for our precious boy... he makes every day a great one
here on Long Island!

I also want to thank you for showing me the practices that an
exceptional, responsible hobby breeder such as yourself believes in
fundamentally.  Close attention to genetics and pairings, extensive health testing,
pampering the expectant mommies, and properly caring for and
SOCIALIZING each and every Connemara pup is what truly sets your dogs apart from
the rest.  I have had the privilege of meeting many other Connemara
Jack Russell owners through your amazing "Dirt Dog" forum, and seeing all
of these dogs from different generations and litters interact
beautifully is something I will always cherish.  One would think having upwards
of 15 Jack Russell terriers in one place at one time would be nothing
short of chaos - well, I had 16 dogs at my house this past summer for a
Dirt Dog BBQ, and the dogs were all WONDERFUL and very well-behaved!
I have enclosed some pictures of this incredible day and hope you enjoy
them as much as we enjoyed meeting everyone with their dogs!

Thank you SO MUCH!  We can't wait for our next Connemara Jack!

Love always,

Sarah, Ron, Sully, Tess, and Izzy
(and Becca and Spice, too!)
When we first found Connemara Terriers in '05, my husband & I were at the point in our lives where we wanted to bring a dog into our family.  Having grown up with a shorty JRT, I knew it was the breed for us.  I also knew I would have to do a lot of research to find a reputable breeder as I was very aware of the issues that can come along with badly bred JRTs.  As soon as I found  Connemara, it was obvious I had stumbled upon something truly unique & it soon became apparent that they were not your typical breeders.  It took me days to pour over the pages & pages of information on the website.  There was a page dedicated to each of the dogs & a page dedicated to Sheila’s family & their background & experiences.  I was most impressed by the fact that the pups were bred for their temperament, that litters were planned far in advance based on reservations & that you had to apply for a spot on a reservation list.  We knew Connemara was the breeder for us so we filled out an application for a puppy.  When Sheila called, we talked for a long time & we asked each other many questions.  It became very clear that She cared who she placed her puppies with & she also explained about how she performs temperament testing on each puppy to make sure they were appropriately matched to each family.  At that time, we were placed on a reservation list for a pup due the following spring, but we knew the wait was going to be worth it.  Sheila told us we were welcome to visit anytime so we also made plans to visit the kennel over the coming month.  We were also given full access to other Connemara Terrier owners where I was introduced to many families all over the country.  As luck would have it, a last minute reservation change on a current litter allowed a pup to become available sooner. June of '05, we brought our first little Connemara Terrier home.

But the story doesn’t end there…  I think one of the best testaments to the quality and integrity of Connemara Terriers is that since bringing our first pup home in '05, we have added TWO more Connemara Terriers to our family.  We have also referred our family members & friends who have since added Connemara pups to their families as well!  Sheila is not one of those breeders who will disappear after she hands over your puppy.  She is always a phone call away if you need her for any reason.  She stays in contact with her “families”.  Through the Forum we have made life-long friendships with other Connemara families & we regularly get together with other families & dogs.

Sheila, you are the best of the best and we thank you every day from the bottom of our hearts for your hard work, integrity & dedication to your breeding program, your puppies & all your extended families.  Fionn, Maddie and Keeva have added so much joy to our lives.  Please give our name & number to anyone looking for a reference.

The bottom line is that we care about what we are breeding and we care about placing our puppies in the right homes.

If the above letters are not enough to convince you - We will be happy to give you our vets contact information and a handful of real people you can talk to yourself.  Better yet, we will give you the names of the very few who didn't have things go as smoothly with their pup for one reason or another. They too will tell you we are true to our word and they were satisfied when all was said and done.

We will always assume responsibility for the puppies that leave our care.  And we will never take lightly the trust you have shown us.
NINJA DOG  see one of our dogs in this silly little clip
Clover is doing well. Still a miracle to us. We thank you so much for giving us such a wonderful dog.

Tom, Jess & Clover
Sheila,

You were unwavering in that docking the tail was mutilation and you wouldn't do that to your dogs. I told you that we wanted it. You were not willing to budge on it... We have no animosity, in fact, I have recommended you to several people looking for real Jacks without aggression. ...we still would want a jack with one patch, broken coated, brown spot AND a docked tail. ...I will continue to direct people to you first and foremost. I studied  breeders far and wide and there is no one even in your category and with that, I do thank you.

"Somewhere in the USA"

(I edited out other personal details of the writer but I like this note for one reason: It shows we have integrity and won't lower it to take your money.  ...The writer goes on to say that every other breeder they talked to were willing to mutilate their puppies if it would make a sale.  We are trying to match puppies with families - if the tail length matters - We honestly aren't the right breeder for you.)
TESTIMONIALS
We require a "NO DOCKING - NO DEW CLAW REMOVAL" Agreement.  We have docked tails and removed dew claws in the past.  As of September 2006, our policy is to no longer mutilate our pups. We will ask for our future puppy owners commitment to same.  By 2007, 30+ countries have outlawed docking/cropping... and the list is growing. Even some U.S. states are seeking statewide bans at this time.
